Idyllic French house surrounded by beautiful Dordogne countryside, private swimming pool

Le Figuier is a desirable holiday rental, immaculately presented and located in a quiet corner of Dordogne nearby to popular Hautefort, it is a house for all to enjoy. Positioned at the edge of the terrace is a private heated salt water swimming pool which can be comfortably enjoyed from May to September, there is an area for playing the popular French games of boules (petanque) within the large garden as well as ample space to wander amongst the grapevines and take in the views of the surrounding countryside.

The house is situated within 10 mins drive from Hautefort, with its magnificent chateau and several cafes, restaurants, boulangerie, epicierie, boucherie and supermarket. Also within easy reach of Sarlat (45mins) and Perigueux (40 mins). Montignac, with the world famous Unesco Lascaux caves, is also close-by (30mins).

Interior layout On the ground level of this impressive barn conversion is an open plan kitchen/dining/living area with high, beamed ceilings. It's a perfect space to enjoy quality time with friends and family of all ages. Some of the 18th century features have been beautifully retained with the rest of the property bieng tastefully renovated to create a really special living space. Excellently equipped, beautifully styled in calm and neutral decor throughout.

Also on the ground floor is very handy laundry/cloakroom/shower room. Plus a separate snug living where you can watch television ( both French and English channels) read books, play games, write postcards or just have a good old afternoon nap!

The second floor is accessed via a bespoke wooden staircase that curves around the wonderful reclaimed stone fireplace (we can fit baby gates if required). There are 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms on this floor, all renovated to modern standards with fans provided for the warm summer nights.

Exterior Externally you will enjoy the beautiful craftsmanship of this lovingly refurbished house, well planted flower beds and quintessential Dordogne views. The house comes with a private terrace, a barbecue and outside furniture. There is also table tennis table and table football table and plenty of space for ball games. The pool is fully enclosed and offers a selection of sun-loungers.

Within the grounds there is a small vineyard and the owners, Andrew and Sue (who live in a separate house on site) are on hand for impromptu tours of the vines and also have an extensive cave stocked with local wine that they are happy to sell to guests at vineyard prices. While they are on hand to answer any questions and help in any way they can to make sure your stay is as perfect as possible, you will not find them intrusive.

Sleeping arrangements 4 bedrooms in total:

Double master bedroom with ensuite ( bed size 200x150)
1 x twin room
2 x twin room or doubles with bed sizes 200 x180)

Location

Locale

Visiting Dordogne you will find beautiful towns and villages and excellent cuisine for which the region is famous. Numerous chateaux, fortified towns, caves and prehistoric dwellings, and of course many restaurants, are a short drive away.

The local area offers canoeing on three different rivers and other water sports at a nearby lake with all amenities. Quad biking and hot air ballooning are on hand at the nearest town, Hautefort. Popular with children and adults alike is the velo rail (cycle carriages on disused rail tracks) which is within easy reach.

Le Figuier is ideally placed for experiencing the best of the Dordogne but the regions of Correze, Lot and Auvergne are all within a couple of hours from the property - if you can tear yourself away from the pool that is!

Reviews

As two families, we stayed in Le Figuier for 10 days in July 2022.

We had a fabulous time at Le Figuier - exploring the Dordogne region during our stay including canoeing, the caves at Tourtoirac, cave paintings at Lascaux and even watching some horse show jumping at Pompadour.

Pros:
* Accommodation wise, it was perfect for us - 2 families (2 couples with 2 children each)
* Pool was amazing - great temperature, loads of shades and the salt water was lovely
* Very well equipped to a high standard
* The separate little living room was great for our kids (aged between 5 and 9)
* Downstairs open plan area is lovely for cooking, eating and milling around in
* Drive is perfect for Boules :-)
* Lovely view from the outside dining area and awesome stars at night with so little light pollution

Cons (not many!!!):
* For some this is more of a Pro… it is quite remote from anything, a good 10/15 minute drive from any villages large enough to have a shop, bakery etc.
* Air conditioning upstairs would have been nice as it did get pretty hot at night

Property manager response (21 Jul 2022)

Thank you for such a lovely review of Le Figuier and surrounding area Robin, sounds like a really fun holiday you had, and we appreciate the feedback. We hope to see you again in Dordogne one day soon. À bientôt, Ross and Joni

A wonderful place to stay.. gorgeous house, pool and garden and perfect terrace for sipping une verre du vin (ou deux) with lovely sunsets.
Lots of interesting places to visit but the definite place to go is the boulangerie in Hauteforte- the best croissants EVER. Be warned they are closed on Thursdays.

We love Le Figuier - the pool, the pingpong, the bbq!! Great house, great area. We have enjoyed the velo rail thanks to the recommendations made by your. A week never feels long enough, we never usually return to the same gite twice but this place is exceptionally tough to beat. Thanks for the lovely memories, The Greens.

We had a lovely stay at Le Figuier as a family with Sue and Andrew as fabulous hosts.

The gite is amazing, spacious and very well equipped. We especially loved the pool and bbq. The caves were a highlight as was the chateau at Hautefort. Highly recommend

You will feel like you are stepping into your very own home in France when you book Le Figuier! Every touch at this lovely Dordogne historic house is so personal and thoughtful, from the welcome basket of French goodies and the bottle of wine awaiting our arrival, to the board games in the 'snug' and the willingness of our hosts to put out the ping pong table once they learned our teenage children loved to play. The charm of this restored home, the expansive pool, the view of the surrounding rolling hills, and the graciousness of our hosts have us already planning our return visit!
