They would be happy for you to enter their garden to take in the view of Badefols chateau, which stands proudly above the Joli Canard, its circular towers and 'jolly hat' roofs are really quite spectacular, whats more is you can see so much detail, being less than 500 metres away!

Badefols d'Ans is a rural french village, well situated and has all the local amenities that you need to get you started on your holiday within walking distance. Including two restaurants and one Cafe/Bar which is a short stumble down the hill! A small Proxi general store/tabac, and a Charcuterie.
Badefols d'Ans is 6km from Hautefort where there is a larger supermarket, Intermarche, Chemist, several restaurants of varying quality, an excellent Boucherie and last but not least La Boulange Gilbert - a must visit! Also within a short drive is' Beau Village' St Robert, which again has a selection of places to eat and really is a lovely place to visit. Popular tourist destinations such as Montignac, Terrasson, Sarlat, Domme and Beynac are no more than a 45 mins drive south of Badefols d'Ans, all within easy driving distance for day trips.
Travelling By Car (And Ferry)
For those driving from the Eurotunnel you can expect to be in Dordogne within 9 hours or so. There is a choice of routes - via Paris or via Rouen tend to be the most popular, depending on where you want to visit. The same applies to those arriving in France via the channel ferries (DFDS and Brittany offer the widest range of times and vessels). There is also an overnight ferry service from Portsmouth to Santander. Perigueux is around six hours drive from there.
Planes and Trains
Dordogne region is fairly well serviced by provincial airports and regional railway lines as well as links to the high speed TGV network. Ryanair, Easyjet and British Airways have offered flights from the UK, historically, to Bordeaux, Bergerac, Limoges, Toulouse and Brive (Vallee de la Dordogne) from departure points across the UK and Ireland. KLM and Air France also offer options from mainland Europe.
If the French leg of your journey begins in Paris there are a range of connecting flights to the airports mentioned above and also some options to travel onwards by train. The high-speed TGV drops you in Bordeaux in an impressive two hours (you could stop off in Saint Emilion for lunch..) or Brive La Gaillarde in around our hours or so.
Free parking can be found opposite the Church or at the Salle des Fetes which is a 2 minute ( or less) walk from the property.

We decided to ignore the axiom “you should never go back” and returned to Joli Canard for our first foreign holiday since covid arrived. Having visited in 2019 we wondered if the old French magic was still about and the moment we crossed the threshold into this gorgeous haven of peace, our minds were instantly put at rest.
For us, it’s the tranquility of the village and the house which makes the place special. We love to go to the table d’orientation and listen to the silence and admire the views over to Hautefort and beyond. Joli Canard has the benefit of a cool bedroom even in the hottest months and it’s well equipped too. We don’t tend to eat out much as my wife is a coeliac but we enjoy cooking all the local foods. The Intermarche in Hautefort is well stocked and there are the local markets too.
Ross and Joni are excellent hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. This was put to the test when our flight home was cancelled at short notice. They were invaluable in helping us with an additional night’s accommodation and advising us of alternative travel arrangements. So professional and caring of our situation.
We look forward to visiting this taste of unspoiled France time and time again. To deny yourself this excellent accommodation nestled within a backdrop of stunning countryside, amazing food and drink plus the well-being this offers to body and soul in an increasingly chaotic world, would be ill advised indeed.
As for “never going back” it’s more “we never want to leave”!

What a beautiful gite in a truly French village with all the accompanying comforts. The gite was spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished for a relaxing week's stay. My wife is more than happy to cook on holiday. The kitchen was well equipped and easy to serve outside in the quiet and sunny garden. The local auberge was just down the footpath and food excellent for the days to 'eat out'.
We both love walking and local walks were rewarding , and on the hot days, enjoyed a stroll through walnut orchards. A slightly longer walk took us to a lovely viewpoint with 360degree distant sights. Used our car to visit other lovely villages and a local well known chateau all within about 25 miles of the gite.
The village of Badefois d'Ans complemented the peace and tranquillity of Jolie Canard, where the pace of life was so relaxing.
Ross and Joni made perfect hosts and although this was their first year with the gite, were happy to answer any questions or advice, and made us feel very much 'at home'
We certainly hope to return in 2020

We throughly enjoyed our fortnight stay in the Joli Canard, we had all weathers including snow, each bringing a different feel to the village. The walks in and around the Badefols are brilliant, all easily sign posted and have never ending views. The village itself is warm, peaceful and welcoming, the boulangerie was the highlight of our trip - visiting each morning for freshly baked pastries and bread! The property itself is very comfortable, the beds are great, excellent modern bathroom suit and the underfloor heating is a treat. Lovely garden and village views from upstairs, well equipped kitchen and very approachable hosts. We would most definitely recommend the Joli Canard and the area which it is in, can't wait to go back at the end of the year.

Had a great stay at Joli Canard. Lovely villa beautiful decorated with everything you need. Cute garden area where we ate, drank and enjoyed the sunshine. Joni and Ross are welcoming and friendly hosts and gave us great recommendations for places to visit, walks and cycle routes, We hired their bikes and despite not having cycled for a long time it was an super way to explore the countryside. Quiet roads and tracks so easy and safe to get about. Highly recommend a meal at the restaurant along the road which serves fresh local produce in a relaxed friendly environment.
