We have six wonderful self catering holiday homes which we consider to be 'family friendly'. They all sleep 5 comfortably, most of which have a private pool and or private garden area for lots of running around and peaceful sun-bathing! All of the properties are well positioned in and around Dordogne region, which is most famous for its gourmet delights, notably paté de foie gras, walnuts and truffles...plus wonderful summers!
The properties really speak for themselves, so, in no particular order;
1) LA CARRIERE
Contemporary architect-designed home with pool, verandah and breathtaking views of the Dordogne countryside.
This property will not disappoint - there really is something and somewhere for all to enjoy! Completed in 2009, this stylish house benefits from hi-tech insulation and heat recovery ventilation system, features impressive oak-beamed ceilings, has its own private swimming pool, decked garden area with glorious views and woodland walks. The property is not overlooked by any other houses so you can fully enjoy the peace and tranquility of the surrounding countryside.
The main living area is a perfect space for a social holiday and comes with a real touch of luxury. Solid wood floors and clever lighting make the space flow nicely, a top of the range contemporary kitchen (with every appliance you could wish for!) and a light filled comfortable lounge area with wood burning stove alongside a huge dining area with seating for 6. This ground floor area opens up to a wrap-around verandah, and directs you to the nicely decked pool area and peaceful outdoor seating spaces.
Also on the ground floor there are two well-sized bedrooms, a bathroom, plus utility room. From here you can take the stairs to the mezzanine level, currently used as a quiet reading space, and also to the spacious master suite with private balcony which enjoys views of the Dordogne countryside, as part of the master suite there is a luxurious modern ensuite bathroom.
There are many plus points to this property, it's homely and spacious, somewhere that you can all unpack and unwind, play games, swim, dine, read, spot wildlife and explore the area whilst walking the quiet country roads without a care in the world. We think you'll love it.
2. LA HULOTTE *NEW
Nestled in an idyllic spot surrounded by the simple beauty of the French countryside.
La Hulotte offers a peaceful setting on the edge of a small village, ideal for family holidays or for friends who want to escape the hustle-bustle of everyday life. The recently renovated swimming pool will be ideal for cooling off during the summer months and is just next to the sunny terrace which benefits from a lovely panoramic view across the countryside towards Hautefort Chateau.
The house was once an old farmers' dwelling which had fallen into disrepair before being lovingly restored by it's current owner who has a long-term familial connection with the village. The results of the renovation are impressive. Spread over three floors, you enter on the middle level (via private parking space for two cars) where you'll find a spacious study complete with traditional fireplace and wood burner as well as television and DVD player. This level also provides a double bedroom and modern bathroom. Upstairs there is another double bedroom with wonderful exposed beams and a further bathroom both of which offer an element of privacy for whoever sleeps here.
The lower level of La Hulotte is the main living, eating, drinking, socialising area and has been created with a healthy dose of style and traditional charm. Open plan, this floor has a nice seating area with wood burner, a big dining table and a kitchen which has the prefect balance of traditional style, modern appliances and clever layout. Guests can enjoy the sunny terrace via the French doors - not far to walk with a freshly poured G&T and close enough to chat with the chef! The terrace leads you down a small banking towards the inviting swimming pool. This lower level also has a handy WC and shower.
The village of Badefols d'Ans is a short walk along a country lane - here you will find two good traditional French restaurants (booking is recommended), a village store, charcuterie and the obligatory French boulangerie. The village of Hautefort is a short drive away and will provide more of the same as well as your nearest supermarket.
Located in the eastern corner of the Dordogne region, you will find yourself surrounded by walnut groves rather than vineyards and the landscape is more hilly over here as well as being stunningly beautiful.
Within a few miles you can kayak along the Auvézère river, explore the famous Lascaux Caves (as well as the more recently discovered Grotte de Tourtoirac) and visit the magnificent Chateau de Hautefort.
3) MAISON BLEUE
Picturesque stone cottage, a home away from home.
La Maison Bleue is a good sized home suitable for families and friends with high chairs and travel cots available as well as a good selection of games and books. A welcoming home where you can all put down your things and instantly relax into your holiday, with safe lawn area for children to play in sight of the property. Located on the edge of the beautiful french village of Payzac in the Dordogne, there are a few shops/cafes within walking distance to explore (10 minutes), but far enough away that the property is quiet as a whisper!
Quite important to note that the house next door is also available for rent, see our listing called La Porcherie (sleeps 4). So if you would like your family or friends to join you this would be the perfect place. This being said, the properties are located within a large enough area that you will not feel overlooked by one another and you have your own separate driveway.
Both properties are within a 10 minutes drive to Chateau Durantie in Lanouaille, which is a popular wedding venue. There are superb cycling routes to explore from the doorstep, there is a golf course nearby, swimming and plenty of sightseeing! .
4) LA ROLPHIE
Idyllic rustic charm, ideal for family fun. Renovated stable in the heart of the peaceful countryside.
The property really is a home away from home ,internally fantastic open-plan living vibe, great for socialising as a group. Huge wood burning stove, big enough to warm the whole house...you will see what we mean! All the kitchen appliances you need and more. Bundles of traditional features throughout, the most fantastic beams, exposed stonework and quirky features. Colourfully decorated giving a warm and friendly atmosphere.
This property has two bathrooms, one on the ground level with a bath and one upstairs with a cubicle shower.
5) LES FIGUES
Prepare to be enchanted by this beautiful 14th century home on the rivers edge.
This beautiful home has been providing comfort and shelter for it's dwellers since the 14th century and provides a unique holiday experience. As you can imagine, there are a wealth of period features to be found across all three floors and it will take some time for you to explore from top to bottom. The property owner has an admirable eye for detail and has combined old-world charm with a touch of modern style - furnishings, linen and bathroom facilities are modern, stylish, attractive and comfortable which helps guests settle in immediately and begin to feel at home.
On the ground level you enter into the main dining/kitchen area with modern appliances and an impressive open fire. Through the door straight ahead you will find the large living room with an equally impressive fireplace (with wood burner) and a glimpse of the enchanting private garden from the window. There is also a (very) private double bedroom on this level with en-suite toilet and small balcony.
The lower ground level is dominated by the largest of the bedrooms, with en-suite shower-room, and access out to the private garden via French doors. Immediately outside lies the patio area with dining furniture, if you walk down the narrow stairs you will find yourself in the wonderful private garden which leads down to the river.
The upper floor of this property is at the top of a winding stone staircase which oozes character. There you can find a double bedroom and a further double bed in an adjoining room. There is a large shared bathroom on this level with bath and shower. The view from the windows look out to the front of the property.
6) VILLA DE LA COLLINE *NEW
Peaceful family home in the countryside yet only a short walk to charming French village.
Located on the edge of the typically French village of Cherveix Cubas, Villa de la Colline is an ideal holiday retreat for families who want a break from busy everyday life. The property benefits from ample privacy and is surrounded by a large landscaped garden including swimming pool for cooling off during the summer months and a table tennis table for family fun! There are several comfortable outdoor seating areas surrounding the house so if you're looking for 5 minutes peace, you will find it!
The house itself includes a very light and modern open plan living/dining room, its very spacious! With direct access to the garden and outdoor dining areas. On the ground floor there is a well equipped kitchen, again with a door directly into the garden,a bathroom, two bedrooms and entrance hall. The master bedroom with en suite shower on the first floor via a beautiful wooden spiral staircase.
The village of Cherveix Cubas is a short walk away and provides a couple of good restaurants, a cafe/tabac, boulangerie, post office and tourist information. You can also hire kayaks on the nearby river Auvézère. It's a fantastic holiday home away from home, the views are spectacular, the garden is vast and the indoor living space is much bigger than most!
